Eucharist

The Sacrament of the Eucharist traces all the way to the Last Supper. As Catholics, we take Jesus at His word. He declared the bread and wine at that meal to be His Body and Blood and told us, “Do this in remembrance of me.” We follow that command when we celebrate the Eucharist at Mass, where the priest acts with Jesus’ authority to make His Body and Blood present again. We believe that in the Eucharist we truly encounter the whole Jesus–His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity–under the appearance of bread and wine.  The Eucharist is called the “Source and Summit” of the Catholic faith because it nourishes our faith and gives us the mountaintop experience of an encounter with God Himself!

“The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life. The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucharist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch.”
Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1324
