The curriculum is developed according to the guidelines of the “Religion Graded Course of Studies” of the Diocese of Columbus. Classes are held on Sunday mornings from 9:00 – 10:15 am. For further information or to register for classes, please call the Parish Office. Contact Deacon Doug Mould at 740-622-8817.

At Sacred Heart, a parish-based approach is required for the reception of the Sacraments of Penance, Eucharist, and Confirmation. Students preparing for these sacraments are to be baptized Catholics and receiving religious education as students at Sacred Heart School or the PSR Program at Sacred Heart. Meetings are held during the year to assist parents in their role of preparing their children for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist, and Confirmation

Children in second grade and older who have not yet received First Reconciliation are eligible for preparation for this sacrament. Preparation takes place with our Parish School of Religion (PSR). Preparation takes place in the fall and celebration of First Reconciliation and Penance takes place during Lent.

Children in second grade and older who have not yet received First Holy Eucharist are eligible for preparation for First Communion. Preparation takes place with our Parish School of Religion (PSR). Preparation begins in February and concludes with First Communion Sunday on the first Sunday in May.

Confirmation at Sacred Heart is held every two years (even numbered years) in the spring for students in grades 7 and 8, and for other students in higher grades who have not yet received the sacrament of Confirmation. Sessions begin in the fall and continue with monthly sessions through the spring. Adults who have not received the Sacrament of Confirmation should call the Parish Office at 622-8817.
2021-2022 Schedule for Confirmation

Parents wishing to have their child baptized at Sacred Heart Church must be registered members of the Parish, and both parents must attend a Baptismal Preparation class that is held at times announced in the parish bulletin. Godparents are encouraged to attend. If as a parent you have attended our class in the past three years, you need not attend again. Arrangements for scheduling Baptisms can be made by calling the parish priest or one of the deacons.

Marriage preparation needs to begin at least six months prior to the date of the intended marriage. No date may be reserved prior to consultation with the pastor and/or the parish office. Call the Parish Office and request to speak with the pastor or deacon. Each couple is required to participate in the “Pre-Cana” or “Engaged Encounter” experience. Brochures on Pre-Cana and copies of our Parish Marriage Guidelines may be obtained from the Parish Office or at the preliminary meeting with the priest or deacon. For more information on marriage, please visit the website

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process of gradual stages along the path to full initiation in the Catholic Church. This process involves the teaching of Scripture, prayer, catechesis on Catholic doctrine, faith sharing, and the direct contact with members of Sacred Heart Church. It is a process of both internal and external transformation and conversion helping us to grow in holiness. The RCIA provides Liturgical Rites to be celebrated during the process to full Church membership at the Easter Vigil. The RCIA process is for anyone interested in learning more about the Catholic faith. Sessions are held Sundays in the Parish Meeting Room at 12:00 noon. Contact Deacon Doug Mould at the Parish Office for more information at 740-622-8817.
